Today my day started early.
I was up at 8am, ate a light breakfast and continued my journey through the Waikato region.
Today we are going on a day trip to the beautiful Lake Taupo, the largest lake in New Zealand is where we're heading to today. On our way there, we passed land with lush grass for raising cattle, thoroughbred horses and vast strands of exotic timber.
On the way there, we stopped at the Huka Falls. The beautiful Huka Falls are located near Huka Village, a short drive north of Taupo and they are the largest falls on the Waikato River. This is New Zealand's most visited natural attraction.
At Huka Falls there are a few activities for you to engage in. One of them would be a 30-minute riverside walk that brings you to several viewing platforms, providing excellent vantage points. You can also take a ride on a boat cruise or the famous Huka Jet, to see the Falls from an entirely different view point.
When i was there, i stood at a foot bridge right at the top of the falls and witnessed up close the frightening phenomenon of natural hydro power. Here water of more than 220,000 litres tumble over the cliffs every second, crashing into the beautiful yet turbulent blue/green pool 11 meters below.
After the visit to Huka Falls, we headed down to Lake Taupo our boat cruise. We had lunch, then reflect on the day's adventures and did some trout fishing and ate our catch on a beautiful 60 foot long privately charted vessel.
Headed back to the lodge for a good night's rest cause we've got a morning flight to Queenstown tomorrow.
